Hi Im 41 and a half weeks pregnant and I was just wondering if I should allow my Dr. to induce me or since due dates are simply determined by last menstration and ultra sound, should I let the baby come out on his own when he is good and ready. Really, I dont want to have a failed induction and be forced into a C-section. This is my first pregnancy and times a running out, If the baby isnt born before monday morning I will need to go to labor and delivery check myself in and then have the induction talk AGHHH what should I do? I dont want to rush the baby especially if my dates are just a couple weeks off and he isnt late at all.

If you’re still pregnant, you’re probably excited just to have your baby already! Relax.  There’s a very good chance that you’ll go into labor at any time in a natural way during this, your 41st week. If you don’t, your practitioner may talk to you about inducing labor. Although about 5% of pregnancies extend three or more weeks past the due date, most doctors won’t let pregnancies last this long. That’s because a prolonged post-dates pregnancy and labor can lead to an increased risk for complications for both mother and baby. Babies born a bit later may have dry, almost parchment-like skin and may be quite overweight. In fact, even now at your 41st week, your baby is 20 inches long and about eight pounds in weight. He’s a big boy—or she’s a big girl—and that baby is very, very ready to meet you!
