Your Pre-Labor ChecklistVideo Description:Your pre-labor checklist will include a list of things you need - like a baby car seat, diapers, and clothes. You should make up this delivery checklist earlier in your pregnancy, to be sure you bring everything you'll need to the hospital. Transcript:You’ve had a baby on board for nine months and now he or she is preparing to make an entrance! In the weeks leading up to your delivery, you can take some simple steps to make sure that you are prepared for the big day.  It’s a good idea to make sure that both you and your partner know how to get to the hospital, and where to go once you’re inside. Keep your doctor’s phone number and the hospital information with you at all times, and make sure your partner does, too. In addition, make several hard copies of a “who to call” list for when the baby does arrive.  You should pack a bag in advance which has items you’ll need along with baby essentials. For your baby you should include two receiving blankets, onesies, and a cap. And make sure that you put an infant car seat in your vehicle—many states won’t let you go home without one! For you, pack any medications that you might need, nursing bras, clean clothes, and basic toiletries. Make sure your partner or coach packs your insurance card, plenty of change for the vending machines, and two cameras. Finally, know what to do once you feel your first contraction: Call your doctor. But don’t leave for the hospital until you’re in active labor, which is signaled by contractions every three to five minutes, and which last for about a minute each. You should know that the rupturing of your amniotic sac, also known as your water breaking, doesn’t usually happen before labor starts. In fact, only 11-percent of women will experience this event pre-labor – it more commonly occurs after you’re at the hospital. If your water breaks early, let your doctor know, but don’t head to the hospital until your contractions dictate that it’s time. And remember to breathe! Bringing a baby into this world is a big event.
