Swollen feet during pregnancy are a common complaint. But if you're taking care of your pregnant feet, you may have other questions - about toenail fungus, getting a pedicure, or other foot ailments.
Your poor feet endure a lot of shock during your pregnancy. What foot rules should a pregnant lady follow? Are you a high heel devotee? If you can hack it, it’s fine to wear stilettos during your first trimester. Even later in the pregnancy you won’t harm your baby by wearing heels, but your growing tummy will make it considerably harder to balance. However, because an unexpected fall could harm your fetus, it might be wisest to make the switch to flats by 25 weeks. If you’re pregnant and dealing with a less pleasant foot problem —toenail fungus—there are strict guidelines about treating it. Topical antifungal treatments are safe for use, since very little (if any) of the medication will enter your bloodstream. But oral antifungals should be avoided, since the griseofulvin in these products could cause birth defects. Once you’ve got that fungus cleared up, reward yourself with a pedicure! As long as you’re not constantly exposed to the chemical fumes in a beauty parlor, it is perfectly safe to get your tootsies painted.
